2016 WORKSHOPS

********* Now part of the Basingstoke Festival ********

Monday 20th June - Introduction to oil painting - At just £20 per 2 hr session, running for four weeks - 7pm to 9pm

Learn the technical skill and enjoyment that comes from using the most beautiful medium that have created the most famous works of art.  I will take you through the effects of different paints, the difference in quality and the affects it has on your choices of colour and finally show you how you can save money by making your own paints and stretch your own canvas.

Tuesday 21st June - Life drawing, drawing the figure - At just £20 per 2 hr session, running for four weeks - 7pm to 9pm

Working directly from the model, a fun enjoyable programme where you will get the opportunity to use charcoal, pencil, ink and chalk to interpret the poses and capture the figure in front of you.  Poses will include short gesture ones to medium and a final long one to allow you to concentrate on the intricacies of muscles, tendons and bone.  (Note: This workshop involves nudity and is open to adults and GCSE/A level  students only)

Wednesday 22 June - Portrait drawing from life and drawing the clothed figure - At just £25 per 2 hr session (includes cost of sitting model) , running for four weeks - 7pm to 9pm

Working directly from a seated model you will learn the technique of 'sight size', a skill that was utilised by major artists such as Anthony Van Dyke and John Singer Sargent.  This technique has been passed on in the leading ateliers of the world from a master artist to their small group of students.  I was taught by the artist Nicholas Beer, the Senior Instructor at the Charles H Cecil Studios in Florence and Director of the Sarum Studio of Fine Art.  I am now passing this on to those that want to learn this masterful way of drawing portraits and capturing a likeness time and time again.

Saturday 25th June - Painting the landscape -  At just £20 per 2.5 hr session, running for four weeks - 10am to 12.30pm

Working out on location in the countryside, you will be shown the colours used in creating an oil sketch of the view in one session and the essence of capturing the emotion that you feel when faced with the beauty of nature. You will be shown how to achieve perspective and how to mix your own range of greens and the importance chalky colours and those with a higher chroma have on your painting along with other information that will bring your painting to life. You will achieve a painting each week.
